March 23, 2007
Cyd finished in the top eleven scripts out of 141 one-act plays submitted to the festival. An inside source said she was in the running to win, but didn't because her play was "too racy". She feels honored that something she wrote could be considered "too racy" for Tennessee Williams. To read more, click here.
As finalists in the Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition, Cyd and Curtis were invited to apply to this amazing program. They were selected to participate along with two other scripts, Moxie by J.J. Masley & Dwayne McKenzie and Chain Letter by Michael Bucklin.
The first week of the program (February 2007) was spent in Buda, Texas where they worked on their script with James Hart (Dracula, Hook, and Contact) and Herschel Weingrod (Trading Places, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and Falling Down). Hart worked with the writers for three days developing the structure of each screenplay and introducing them to the ”Hart Chart." Jim and the writers charted their stories, which illustrated the lifelines of their main and secondary characters. This process helped each writer develop their characters‚ progress and plot lines. When Herschel arrived, each writer met individually with him to discuss in detail the ins and outs of their scripts. They were given the opportunity to look at what worked and what could be revised scene by scene.
By the end of the week, the writers had prepared for their meetings that took place during the second week of the Writers Ranch in Los Angeles in May 2007. Cyd and Curtis met with producers, managers, and agents gaining valuable contacts and insight into the business side of screenwriting.
